Secure territorial rights for Indigenous Peoples
Mission
AIPP works to strengthen the solidarity, cooperation and capacities of indigenous peoples in Asia in order to promote and protect their rights, cultures and identities as well as their sustainable resource management systems in order to thus favour their development and self-determination.
AIPP envisions indigenous peoples in Asia fully exercising their rights, distinct cultures and identities, so that they may live with dignity. AIPP also envisions the enhancement of sustainable management systems of lands, territories and resources in order to develop an environment of peace, justice and equality.
Objectives
The objectives include for indigenous people in Asia to have greater knowledge of their rights and to be able to advocate for their rights; to have indigenous organizations and indigenous human rights defenders increase their capacities in documentation and advocacy at the national, regional and international levels; to empower indigenous leaders and organizations in Asia to promote and defend their rights, welfare and interests; to defend the collective rights to land, territories and resources for indigenous people's as well the protection and respect for the environment; to build the capacities of indigenous women to assert, promote and protect their rights as women and as indigenous peoples.
Constituencies
AIPP works with indigenous organizations and communities, relevant regional, national and international human rights mechanisms, agencies working on indigenous issues and policy makers.
